No donation made for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’s smooth run: Mukesh Bhatt

Two weeks after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis helped broker peace between the makers of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and MNS chief Raj Thackeray, filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt, head of the Film & Television Producers’ Guild of India, told The Indian Express that Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions had not shelled out any money or “donation” to ensure the film’s smooth release. “There was no discussion of money in that room…So why will there be any donation to any fund or a payment of any kind,” he said, adding that the Rs 5 crore figure emerged from Thackeray’s statement. After the meeting, Thackeray had claimed that the MNS was withdrawing the threat after Johar agreed to contribute Rs 5 crore to the Army welfare fund, for signing a Pakistani actor. However, in an interview to The Indian Express later, Fadnavis said: “It was producer Karan Johar who expressed his desire to make a contribution of Rs 5 crore towards the welfare of the families of the martyred soldiers.” Johar, however, remained unavailable for comment.
