Bronze medallist Sakshi Malik is all set to enter another ring soon. Her brother Sachin told “It was decided before Sakshi left for Rio Olympics that they will get married.”
The person she is going to marry is another wrestler named Satyawart Kadian from Rohtak who comes from a family of wrestlers. His father Satyawan was also a renowned wrestler and runs an akhada in Rohtak. Satyawan said: “They (Sakshi and Satyawart) are getting married and it will be a huge affair. Satyawart trains here in my akhada when he is not competing or in the national camp.”
Satyawart was one of the first people to congratulate her and wrote on his Facebook page: “My Sweetheart #SakshiMalik ? You have made us proud.”
A talented young wrestler himself, 22-year-old Satyawart competes in the 97kg category and has won international medals including a silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow besides the bronze at the Asian Championships the same year.
Earlier, Sakshi had refused to divulge the name of her husband-to-be but had said that he was very supportive of her career. “He is very supportive and considers my dream as his own. After marriage, I will get a good friend in him, who would also help me in my preparation. I believe marriage would have no negative bearings on my wrestling career.”
The Rohtak-born wrestler was also quoted as saying that her next target is to win a medal in 2020 Tokyo Olympics and that she was delighted to prove her critics wrong by grabbing a bronze at Rio. “I am happy to change the perception of those people who thought that women cannot wrestle and used to bully me at every given opportunity,” Sakshi said.
